Recommended applicant profile

The master's degree is directed at two types of students, in line with study programmes in the European Higher Education Area, with the following two pathways:
  • Graduates in Biomedical Engineering (90 credits in three semesters of 30 credits each): one semester on economics and business, one on advanced health technologies, and one to prepare the final master's degree project (in hospitals, companies, business schools and research centres).
  • Students who hold other bachelor's degrees, preferably in technical or scientific areas (120 credits in four semesters of 30 credits each): one semester of bridging courses on biomedical engineering principles, adapted to the individual situation of each student, followed by three semesters as described in section a.

In order to ensure their success in the master's degree, applicants should have a suitable level of physics, chemistry and mathematics and a good command of English.

Admission requirements

In accordance with Article 16 of Royal Decree 1393/29 October 2007, students must hold one of the following qualifications to access university master's degree courses:
  • An official Spanish degree.
  • A degree issued by a higher education institution within the European Higher Education Area framework that authorizes the holder to access university master's degree courses in the country of issue.
  • A qualification from outside the framework of the European Higher Education Area. In this case, the qualification should be recognized as equivalent to an official Spanish degree. If it is not recognized, the University of Barcelona shall verify that it corresponds to a level of education that is equivalent to official Spanish degrees and that it authorizes the holder to access university master's degree courses in the country of issue. Admission shall not, in any case, imply that prior qualifications have been recognized as equivalent to a Spanish master's degree and does not confer recognition for any purposes other than that of admission to the master's degree course.

Specific requirements

The Master's Degree in Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Biomedical Engineering is designed for two kinds of students: graduates in Biomedical Engineering; and graduates in other fields, preferably scientific or technical.
Graduates in other fields must take a first semester of bridging courses on biomedical engineering principles. The required bridging courses shall be determined according to the student's profile, and shall account for a maximum of 30 credits. Bridging courses may include subjects from other qualifications offered at the University of Barcelona, including Molecular and Cell Biology, Physiology, Biomedical Signals and Instrumentation and Biomaterials.
