Reservoir Geology and Geophysics

Recommended applicant profile

The master's degree Reservoir Geology and Geophysics is an interdisciplinary qualification that integrates and develops the knowledge previously acquired by students in the disciplines of geophysics and geology from tectonic plates at the regional scale to reservoirs at the local scale. The master's degree is recommended for students with broad education in the Earth sciences, including prior knowledge of specific disciplines in the program. Students should also be rigorous and autonomous, motivated to work in the field and in the laboratory, have a relatively strong level of mathematics and a good aptitude for using the latest tools and technologies.

Students should also have a good working knowledge of English, because all subjects will be delivered in English.

Admission requirements

In accordance with Article 16 of Royal Decree 1393/29 October 2007, students must hold one of the following qualifications to access university master's degree courses:

  • An official Spanish degree.
  • A degree issued by a higher education institution within the European Higher Education Area framework that authorizes the holder to access university master's degree courses in the country of issue.
  • A qualification from outside the framework of the European Higher Education Area. In this case, the qualification should be recognized as equivalent to an official Spanish degree. If it is not recognized, the University of Barcelona shall verify that it corresponds to a level of education that is equivalent to official Spanish degrees and that it authorizes the holder to access university master's degree courses in the country of issue. Admission shall not, in any case, imply that prior qualifications have been recognized as equivalent to a Spanish master's degree and does not confer recognition for any purposes other than that of admission to the master's degree course.

Specific requirements

Applicants should hold an official bachelor's degree or an equivalent undergraduate degree in geology, physics, geological engineering or mining engineering. International students in possession of a bachelor's degree which has no specific equivalent in Spain are welcome to apply, provided that their degree curriculum covers aspects of geology and geophysics (for example, degrees in geosciences, geophysics, geophysical engineering or petroleum engineering).

Applications from students in possession of degrees outside this group of preferred disciplines will also be considered.

Bridging courses

In most cases, students in possession of EHEA bachelor's degrees in geology, physics, geological engineering or mining engineering will not be asked to complete bridging courses.
All other students will have to take bridging courses with a total study load of up to 30 ECTS credits, depending on their previous studies.
