Objectives and competences

The master's degree in School Libraries and the Promotion of Reading is organized jointly by the UAB and the UB. The training it provides prepares students to manage school libraries, design centre-specific reading plans, select and use children's and youth fiction, and develop social projects that have an impact on the population's reading habits.

This master's degree is aimed particularly at primary and secondary school teachers, librarians, and documentarists, as well as cultural mediators and promotors, instructors, cultural managers, and publishing professionals.

The Government of Catalonia's Ministry of Education has officially recognized the master's degree course in the teaching profile of reading and school libraries. This is one of the new types of specialist that public schools can request to form part of the school's teaching staff.

The master's degree has a total study load of 60 credits and is delivered through a combination of face-to-face and distance learning.

Placements

Placements in a company or another type of organization are an integral part of university studies, providing first-hand experience of working methodologies in students' chosen professional fields. They offer invaluable practical experience for the transition into work after graduation.

Placements are supervised by tutors and subject to assessment. They are therefore included in the academic record.  There is also an option to complete non-curricular placements of up to 750 hours, which can be extended to 900 hours. For both curricular and non-curricular placements, an educational cooperation agreement is signed between the UB and the company, institution or other organization at which the placement will be carried out.
