Objectives and admission

Learning objectives:
Presentation of the reception and development of comparative literature approaches from the Catalan perspective; review of the precedents of Comparatism in Catalonia, the contributions of the earliest explicitly academic comparatists, and review of the role of Comparative Literature in criticism and literary history in the field.

The course examines the importance of translations in the constitution of a cultural tradition, as well as the role of translation and the implicit Comparatism in the activities of the most influential Catalan writers and critics. In light of these and other aspects, comparisons will be made with cultural contexts similar to that of Catalonia, or which may help to clarify its position in a European framework characterized by the complexity of the notions of centre and periphery.

Graduates in humanities and social sciences, especially those specializing in areas of history and literature: Literary studies, Theory of Literature and Comparative Literature, History, Modern Languages and Literatures, Catalan, Spanish, Humanities, Philosophy, Sociology, History of Art, Journalism, Communication and Cultural Industries, Audiovisual Communication.

Master's students who would like to participate in this training activity (monographic courses) and request the recognition of credits from their master's programme.

Admission for applicants not holding a degree qualification:
Students who are not university graduates may be admitted on these courses. These students will be eligible for a university extension course certificate.Information regarding the entry requirements in this case can be obtained from the course coordinators.
