CONTEMPORARY ART: CONTEXT, MEDIATION AND MANAGEMENT (2022-2023)
Learning objectives:
- To demonstrate the complexity of contemporary art production by analysing the major movements, artists and contexts.
- To learn how to analyse the current situation in the field of art criticism: trends, creative contexts, the new global situation, art centres, galleries, fairs and events.
- To learn how to recognise the individual strategies that artists use to find their place in the market and to manage their careers.
- To learn to appraise the decisions taken by artists on the public projection of their work.
- To understand the role of cultural agents in contemporary art.
- To understand the role of economics in the area of culture and public funds.
- To learn how to identify the most recent forms of art production, related to the city and the specific context of the community.
- To learn how to recognise tactics of intervention, occupation and construction of an alternative public space in urban contexts.
- To analyse attitudes, processes and art production relating to architecture, urban development and the urban community.
- To understand and learn how to use terms and descriptions correctly to analyse this type of temporary productions, and participate in specific contexts in the form of postproduction.
- To learn how to consult various contributions on the relationships between art, architecture and community.
- To reconsider and know how to interpret the new links between art producer and the public, art production and the market, art and political action, and art and reality.
- To learn how to recognise the new definition of the global situation.
- To learn how to establish conceptual bridges between the global situation and the institutional fabric of contemporary art.
- To understand the general functioning of art structures.
- To understand some key examples (such as those of Mexico and Scandinavia) and learn to analyse other contexts.
Recommended applicant profiles and admission requirements:
- Collectors, gallery owners, managers of private and institutional collections, art teachers, investment consultants, museum curators, specialists in restoration and conservation, journalists, historians, critics, art dealers and cultural managers.
- Anybody who wishes to become a part of the contemporary art world.
Admission for applicants not holding a degree qualification:
Students who are not university graduates may be admitted on these courses. These students will be eligible for a university extension course certificate.Information regarding the entry requirements in this case can be obtained from the course coordinators.
