Objectives and admission

Learning objectives:
- To acquire a clear, updated and cross-disciplinary vision of information society law, by enhancing competences associated with computer science, telecommunications and the Internet and addressing the use of tools for professional development.

Specific objectives:
- To understand the legal regime of electronic trade and of service providers in the information society.
- To understand and apply the legal implications of the field of privacy and data protection.
- To understand and manage illegal criminal, civil and mercantile potential related to the use of ICTs and be prepared to comply with obligations and manage risks in the international arena.
- To learn to apply regulations of intangible assets (brands, intellectual property and domain names) in a digital environment.
- To identify the risks and learn the tools to protect an online reputation from the legal point of view, and also the communication and protection of online corporate identity.
- To analyse and learn to apply the digital rights and liberties of people.
- To understand the elements of management and standards of information security, and to learn to design and develop an audit, to align information security with the business.
- To acquire knowledge of the implementation of ICTs in the public sector.
- To understand technological business models and the legal implications for collaborative economy, technological startups, outsourcing contracts and the impact of ICTs on labour relations.
- To design a professional strategy and plan a professional career in the short-, middle- and long-term, creating a marketing and optimization plan.

Recommended applicant profiles and admission requirements:
- Professionals in the legal field (graduates in law, lawyers, legal advisers or legal consultants), working in areas of digital law and the information society.
- Other law professionals looking to refocus their careers.
- Professionals who work with aspects of digital law and the information society (such as: email and internet service providers, online communication, information security, personal data privacy and processing, intangible assets in digital environments, risk management or e-government) and who wish to further their understanding of this field.

Admission for applicants not holding a degree qualification:
Students who are not university graduates may be admitted on these courses. These students will be eligible for a university extension course certificate.Information regarding the entry requirements in this case can be obtained from the course coordinators.
