Food and diet for a round the world regatta

Students of this course will learn about the types of food Barcelona World Race crews take on board with them, as well as about how menus are designed with freeze-dried foods, which retain their organoleptic qualities despite having been treated to reduce their weight and ensure they are as long-lasting and stable as possible.  The course also covers calculating nutritional requirements and planning a diet to maximize performance when training for and racing in a round the world regatta.

Keys for innovation in university teaching

The purpose of the course is to introduce the culture of collaborative learning for the improvement of teaching quality, showing an open-ended list of learning methodologies whose purpose is to help and promote changes in the university classroom.
Once the course has finished, students will be able to: 1) Characterize active and collaborative learning. 2) Apply various strategies: the case method, inverse classroom, gamification, problem-based learning and various digital alternatives in university teaching. 3) Determine the limits, the advantages and dimensions of change in the teaching practice. 4) Reflect on their own university teaching techniques.

Magic in the Middle Ages

An introductory course on the Middle Ages which revolves around the theme of magic. This interdisciplinary MOOC offers an initial insight into the medieval period from the perspectives of history, literature, the history of science and the history of art, courtesy of teaching staff who specialize in the areas in question. The course encourages debate and nurtures students' creativity and ability to think critically.

Management of the semi-critical and critical patient due to COVID-19

After completing this course, you will be able to know the key elements of the approach to critical and semi-critical patients due to COVID-19, based on the available scientific evidence that can help you in making clinical decisions.

Course aimed at medical and nursing professionals, with basic knowledge in the care of critical patients and, due to the health crisis, attend to critical or semi-critical COVID-19 areas and / or these patients outside of their usual location. In addition, this course can be an opportunity to review content for professionals who already work in the field of Medicine / Critical Nursing and Intensive Therapy.

The teaching program has been developed from the Master's Degree in Critical Illness and Emergencies, a reference program in the training of critical patients at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of the University of Barcelona.

This teaching proposal is aimed at the Spanish-speaking community, and corresponds to the Spanish version of the original course in Catalan EduCatVID, promoted by CatSalut (the body in charge of the public health benefits system in the Autonomous Community of Catalonia, Spain).

Starting up a start-up

The course Starting up a start-up has the objective to promote the entrepreneurial competences of students interested in creating their own company in the audiovisual sector. The course has been designed by a group of UB lecturers, who are experts in different knowledge areas such as psychology, education, philology and law, but who have the common denominator of their wide experience in the audiovisual sector. The course is structured in four modules, where students learn to analyse the economic feasibility of their audiovisual projects, the legal aspects that must be considered and the administrative procedures that should be followed. The course ends with suggestions from some of the most important professionals in the sector on the aspects they consider essential to start up an audiovisual project.

The Mediterranean: a region of exchanges (from the Renaissance to the Enlightenment)

This course presents the Mediterranean, from a historical perspective and for a non-specialist audience, as a region shaped by interconnected routes and the circulation of people, objects, ideas and practices as a result of mobility and interaction between cultures. The course's entertaining yet rigorous analysis of life in the Mediterranean between the 15th and 19th centuries, from the Renaissance to the Enlightenment, focuses on the western part of the region, which was the scene of social, economic, political and cultural transfer and exchange. The Iberian and Italian peninsulas and the islands lying between them were particularly dynamic in that respect.

Injuries, illness and telemedicine in extreme sailing

Introductory course for entrepreneurs who wish to start a business project minimizing the risks, which are quite a few. The centre of the entrepreneurial process is the entrepreneur, who needs not be Superman, but must follow their common sense and strong determination. The rewards that come with entrepreneurship are many: working to follow your dreams and not other people's; being your own boss; having your own company and creating wealth and jobs for those around you. The course is divided in two parts. The first one focuses on the entrepreneur and their idea, the creation of a team, searching for minimum resources and the generation and validation of a Business Model. The second part deals with the creation of a company, writing a Business Plan and searching for sources of finance.
