Exhibition: “DʼOrient a Occident”
14/01/19 - 17/02/19 | 13:02
Culture

The exhibition shows the rich collection of old books dedicated to faraway lands kept in the Rare Book and Manuscript Library. Manuscripts, accounts of past events, atlas, illustrated books and treaties, among others, that show the interest and curiosity those lands generated in the old Europe during the modern period: from missionary tasks to the desire of ecoticism, going over commercial, political and scientific interests.

The exhibition is divided into two areas: the three windows for the exhibition in the room Piferrer in the Philology CRAI Library are dedicated to the East, China being its biggest exhibitor, while the windows in the reading room in the Rare Book and Manuscript Library are dedicated to the West, with several works on America -mainly Brasil- and Africa.

Also, on January 15 and 16, there will be a scientific meeting on several topics related to the western expansion during the modern period. The session on the 15th includes a presentation of the exhibition by the commissioners, an introduction to the bibliographic archive of the rare Book and Manuscript Library and a guided tour around the exhibition.
