To mark the ongoing celebration of the International Year of Chemistry, the University of Barcelona has contributed to the organization of the 11th International Symposium on Applied Bioinorganic Chemistry (ISABC11), overseen by the Department of Chemistry of the Autonomous University of Barcelona under the direction of Dr. Mercè Capdevila. The symposium, to be held on 2-5 December at Casa Convalescència in Barcelona (Sant Antoni Maria Claret, 171), aims to stimulate and propel innovative research in the field of applied bioinorganic chemistry and has been designed to encourage scientific discussion and personal interaction among participants. The opening ceremony will be held on Saturday 3 December at 9 a.m., featuring an address by Dr. Sílvia Atrian, vice-rector for innovation and knowledge transfer of the UB and a member of the ISABC11 organizing committee.

In addition to Dr. Atrian, a full professor at the UBʼs Faculty of Biology, the organizing committee also includes Dr. Gabriel Aullón, Dr. Virtudes Moreno and Dr. Amparo Caubet, from the Department of Inorganic Chemistry of the UBʼs Faculty of Chemistry.

The event will bring together some 300 participants from 31 countries to push the boundaries of applied bioinorganic chemistry. The program will cover all aspects of the broad discipline of metals in diagnosis, therapy and neurosciences, their environmental and toxicological aspects and related metabolic diseases, as well as biomaterials and mimetics of metalloproteins.

ISABC11 will offer a diverse selection of lectures and poster sessions aimed at disseminating relevant scientific and technical information, reporting new developments in the sector and stimulating scientific debate and discussion of new ideas in the general field of applied bioinorganic chemistry.
