In this yearʼs call for proposals for Erasmus Mundus projects, the European Union has selected five new programmes in which the UB participates. In total the University of Barcelona takes part in nineteen projects. The Erasmus Mundus Programme aims to enhance the quality of higher education in Europe and promote dialogue and understanding between people and cultures through academic cooperation with non-EU Third Countries.
Erasmus Mundus is implemented in different actions: Action 1 projects include joint masterʼs degree courses and doctoral programmes of outstanding academic quality; Action 2 focuses on partnerships between European universities and universities from non-EU countries; and Action 3 promotes European higher education through measures enhancing the attractiveness of Europe as an educational destination and a centre of excellence at world level. Regarding Action 1 projects, the University of Barcelona will coordinate the Joint Doctorate in Fetal and Perinatal Medicine (FETAL-MED), with the partnership of Lund University (Sweden) and the University of Leuven (Belgium). The UB coordinator is lecturer Eduard Gratacós from the Faculty of Medicine. The UB will also take part in the International Doctorate in Transdiciplinary Global Health Solutions (TransGlobal), coordinated by the VU University Amsterdam (the Netherlands). The partner coordinator at the UB is lecturer Núria Casamitjana, from the Faculty of Pharmacy. Also part of this edition of the Erasmus Mundus Programme is the masterʼs degree in Chemical Innovation and Regulation (ChIR), coordinated by the University of Algarve and whose partner coordinator at the UB is lecturer Daniel Sainz. This edition will also include the European Joint Master in Quality in Analitical Laboratories (EMQAL), coordinated by the UB, in particular by professor Miguel Esteban.
