Today, Wednesday 5th December, at 12 p.m., the Aula Magna of the Historic Building hosts the academic lecture: “La inserció laboral dels matemàtics i dels enginyers informàtics”, by the director of the Agency for Quality Assurance in the Catalan University System (AQU Catalunya), Josep Anton Ferré, who will present the results of a labour market outcomes survey carried out among mathematicians and data processing engineers, performed by AQU Catalunya in 2011. The lecture has been promoted by the UBʼs teaching innovation group TEFAMA. His coordinator, Ventura Verdú, professor at the Department of Probability, Logic and Statistics, will present the event.

In 2011, AQU Catalunya carried out the fourth edition of the Study on labour market outcomes of graduates from Catalan universities. All Catalan universities participated on the last edition, which was the most extensive analysis of this type ever carried out in the European Union. A population of 28,616 graduates in 2006-2007 was analysed, using a sample of 16,182 people. AQU carried out a second study on the employment outcomes of students who graduated in 2006-2007 and those awarded a PhD in 2006 and 2007, as well as a new study relating to gender on graduates from ten years ago to establish any possible gender-based differences. The purpose of this fourth study on the labour market outcomes of graduates and PhD holders is not just to obtain data on graduate employment, but to also gather information on the quality of their studies and their satisfaction, according to each degree programme and university.

Todayʼs lecture will present the results of the AQU Catalunya study related to the labour market outcomes of graduates in Mathematics and Computer Engineering, and the opinions and evaluation that these students make, three years later, of the education and training received.
