The UB hosts, from 7th to 11th May, the 6th Young Researchers in Archaeology Conference (2013 JIA), an initiative promoted by beginner researchers that takes place in a different city every year. The conference, which aims to be a place of debate for young historians and archaeologists who are not in possession of a PhD degree, is organised by members of University of Barcelona History and Archaeology Researchers Association (AINUBHA). The conference takes place at the Faculty of Geography and History and at the Milà i Fontanals Institute (IMF-CSIC).

The conference takes place at the Faculty of Geography and History and at the Milà i Fontanals Institute (IMF-CSIC).

The conference will be structured around workshops (a novelty on this yearʼs programme), presentations and discussions by means of round tables and posters. A guided tour to the archaeological sites of Camp de les Lloses (Tona), Puig Ciutat (Oristà) and LʼEsquerda (Roda de Ter) will be made the last day. Previous JIA conferences took place at the Complutense University of Madrid, the Autonomous University of Barcelona, the University of Algarve and the Institute of Heritage Sciences (CSIC) in Santiago de Compostela. Those who attended previous conferences came from the main research centre of the State and foreign participation has always been higher than a third part of those registered.

2013 JIA proposes a debate around the concept of ʻcrisisʼ within archaeology. Its objective is not, however, to focus the debate on the current financial depression. In a broader sense, crisis refers to a situation of change. Therefore, the idea of ʻcrisisʼ will be analysed from three different points of view: as a way to foster new research perspectives in our current economic situation; as a situation of crisis, transformation and change in human societies; and as a transformation and change in archaeological theory.

AINUBHA was born to foster historical and archaeological research in Catalonia. The association aims at encouraging the exchange and diffusion of research ideas, methods and techniques. In order to achieve its objectives, it supports the organisation and celebration of national and international scientific events, as well as seminars, workshops and other cultural activities.
