UB tops once more the QS World University Rankings 2013 by Subject in the State

According to QS World University Rankings 2013 by Subject, the UB is the only Spanish university which is among the 200 best universities in 26 out of 30 subject areas. The UB takes also International good positions in the fields of Linguistics (39th place) and Pharmacy and Pharmacology (40th place). In Spanish university scene, the UB holds a really good position in fifteen disciplines and is the leader in 8: Philosophy, Linguistics, Medicine, Biological Sciences, Pharmacy and Pharmacology, Environmental Sciences, Earth and Marine Sciences, and Education. It is important to highlight also the good results obtained by the UB in Agriculture and Silviculture, a new area in rankings and in which the UB is among the 100 best worldwide universities.

According to QS World University Rankings 2013 by Subject, the UB is the only Spanish university which is among the 200 best universities in 26 out of 30 subject areas. The new 2012/2013 QS World University Rankings by Subject shows that the UB is one of the 200 best worldwide universities —and the only one in the State— in 26 subject areas which are: Agriculture and Silviculture, Biological Sciences, Medicine, Psychology, and Pharmacy and Pharmacology (within Life Sciences and Medicine); Chemistry, Physics and Astronomy, Materials Science, Mathematics, Environmental Sciences, and Earth and Marine Sciences (within Natural Sciences); Chemistry Engineering, Computer Sciences and Information Sciences, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering (within Engineering and Technology); English Language and Literature, Modern Languages, History and Archaeology, Philosophy, Geography and Area Studies, and Linguistics (within Arts and Humanities); Sociology, Statistics and Operation Research, Law, Economics and Econometrics, and Education (within Social Sciences).

The UB is also among the 100 worldwide best universities in 14 subject areas: Agriculture and Silviculture, Medicine, Psychology, and Pharmacy and Pharmacology (within Life Sciences and Medicine); Chemistry, Physics and Astronomy, Earth and Marine Sciences, and Environmental Sciences (within Natural Sciences); Chemistry Engineering (within Engineering and Technology); Philosophy, History and Archaeology and Linguistics (within Arts and Humanities); Education and Sociology Education (within Social Sciences).

If we compare the results got in the new ranking to those obtained in the previous one, the UB improves its position in Earth and Marine Sciences, Education, Environmental Sciences, Law, Linguistics, Pharmacy and Physics. The subject areas in which it holds the same position are: Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Economics and Econometrics, Chemistry Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, English Language and Literature, History and Archaeology, Materials Science, Medicine, Modern Languages, Philosophy, Psychology, Sociology, Statistics and Operation Research.

QS World University Rankings by Subject are published every year and based on a methodology which includes the analysis of several indicators such as the academic and employer reputation of graduates, citations and other quality research indicators.
