The Ibero-American ranking SIR 2013 enables to assess research activity by means of a series of bibliometric indicators which analyse scientific production for the period 2007-2011 taking into account the date stored on Scopus. Specifically, the indicators used are: scientific production, international collaboration ratio, normalized impact, high quality publications ratio, specialization index, scientific leadership, and excellence with leadership ratio.

According to the latest ranking, the UB improves its position in scientific production (total amount of papers published on academic journals indexed on Scopus), and globally it gets the best results in the following indicators: international collaboration (institution's output ratio produced in collaboration with foreign institutions), normalized impact (a bibliometric indicator that shows mean visibility of scientific production), high quality publications percentage and excellence rate. Moreover, the UB gets better results in nearly all these indicators than in previous classifications.
