Next Friday, 5 July, the Aula Magna of the Faculty of Biology, affiliated centre with the campus of international excellence BKC, hosts the annual meeting of the Catalan Biotechnology Reference Network, led by professor Anicet Blanch, head of the Department of Microbiology of the UB.

The main aim of the Catalan Biotechnology Reference Network (XRB), managed by the Bosch i Gimpera Foundation (FGB-UB), is to promote interdisciplinary research within the field of biotechnology in Catalonia. Other important objectives of XRB are to foster the exchange of knowledge between public sector researchers and private companies, to take an active and critical role in raising public awareness of biotechnology, to promote collaboration with industry, and to encourage the setting up of new biotechnological firms. Currently, XRB is composed by more than 500 researchers from the University of Barcelona (UB), the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), the Institute of Food and Agricultural Research and Technology (IRTA) and the Centre for Research in Agricultural Genomics (CRAG).

Experts from different institutions and research centres participate in the meeting which will analyse some biotechnology research issues, such as protein turnover, carboxypeptidases, fungal-mediated degradation of emerging contaminants, plant physiology, or peach genome sequence and its applications.
