The 2nd Meeting of UB Science Communicators takes place tomorrow, Tuesday 16 July, from 9 a.m. to 6.30 p.m., at Palau de les Heures on Mundet Campus. Like the first one, the main objective of the second meeting is to exchange science communication experiences within the UB. It includes talks and workshops in order to establish a network to improve University's communication competences. The meeting is internal and the Scientific Culture and Innovation Unit (UCC+i) of the Communication Unit of the UB organises it.

The meeting is divided into four parts. In the first one, Xavier Luri will describe his experience as UB science communicator; he will briefly explain the communication strategies that UB is developing now, for instance the Science Communication Management Plan. Later, Marga Becerra (UCC+i) will give information about the number of projects submitted to the call that the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) announced this year; she will also describe projectsʼ subject areas. To conclude her speech, she will present two or three interesting science communication experiences developed by European institutions.

The second part of the meeting will collect some experiences of communicators who asked for a grant. They will describe the problems they faced and the reasons they received when a project was rejected.

Throughout the third part, Ana Victoria Pérez Rodríguez, manager of Fundación Centro de Estudios para la Ciencia, la Cultura Científica y la Innovació (3CIN) of the University of Salamanca, will describe her managing experience at 3CIN, an institution which organises activities to promote scientific culture and works on science and technology social studies.

In the afternoon, during the last part of the meeting, participants will be asked to think and design a big inter-disciplinary science communication project for the UB, considering the ideas analysed in the morning. Attendants will be asked to get into groups of five. Their proposals should be adapted to the structure demanded by FECYT and the Government of Catalonia (title, summary, objectives, target audience, etc.).

To conclude, one person of each group will make a five-minute presentation of their project. Then, attendants will vote for the three best ones. Winning projects will be given to the Vice-Rector of Science Policy.
