UB rises in QS World University Rankings being one of the best 200 worldwide universities

The University of Barcelona rises in the new QS World University Rankings 2013-2014. It is placed at number 178, 9 points above last yearʼs score. The classification is topped by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT, United States), Harvard University (United States), the University of Cambridge (United Kingdom), University College London (UCL, United Kingdom) and Imperial College London (United Kingdom). Only three Spanish universities are included among the best 200 worldwide ones: the Autonomous University of Barcelona (number 177), the University of Barcelona (number 178) and the Autonomous University of Madrid (number 195). Moreover, UB is at number 80 considering European institutions.

The University of Barcelona rises in the new QS World University Rankings 2013-2014. It is placed at number 178, 9 points above last yearʼs score. Moreover, UB is at number 80 considering European institutions.

UB also rises in the five broad faculty areas established by the ranking. It is 75 points above in Engineering & Technology; around 40 points above in Arts & Humanities and Social Sciences & Management; 10 points above in Natural Sciences, and it keeps its position in Life Sciences & Medicine.

It is to important to highlight that UB is the only Spanish university included in the worldʼs top 100 in four out of five subject areas analysed by QS World University Rankings 2013. UB is placed at the following numbers: Arts & Humanities (58), Engineering & Technology (87), Life Sciences & Medicine (87), Natural Sciences (74) and Social Sciences & Management (111).

Regarding indicators used in the ranking, UB rises in academic reputation (it is 11 points above last yearʼs score) and employer reputation (it is 65 points above last yearʼs score). QS World University Rankings evaluate research quality, graduatesʼ employment index, commitment to teaching, and facultiesʼ international projection by means of a series of indicators.
