To bring general public closer to science

From 14 to 18 July, the Historic Building of UB hosts the course Vull ser divulgador: aprenent a difondre el teu coneixement, coordinated by Francesc Xavier Luri, lecturer from the Department of Astronomy and Meteorology of UB; Claudi Mans, emeritus professor from the Department of Chemical Engineering of UB, and David Bueno, lecturer from the Department of Genetics of UB. The course is addressed to people interested in communicating knowledge beyond classrooms, offices and laboratories: researchers, lecturers, university students involved in research activities, journalists and managers of cultural institutions. "It is a 20-hour course that analyses how to disseminate scientific knowledge. It is divided into seven sessions that provide seven dissemination tools and strategies exposed by seven professionals who describe their own experiences", explain organizers.

"Dels laboratoris als mass media: la comunicació científica a la UB", "Com organitzar grans actes divulgatius: exemples i experiències", "Lʼhumor com a eina de divulgació: lʼexperiència de The Big Van Theory" and "Com fer un programa de televisió, i quina cara fer davant la càmera quan hi ets convidat", are the titles of some sessions. The main objective of the course is to provide participants with resources to communicate science in different places, from schools to media and social networks. Techniques to make an oral presentation, participate in a debate, make a video and clowning techniques are included among the communication tools analysed on the course.

Sessions are conducted by lecturers, journalists, scientists and communicators. We highlight the participation of Mònica Road, coordinator of the science supplement of the newspaper ARA; Xavier Duran, director of the TV programme El medi ambient, and Octavi Planells, editor of the TV programme Redes who created the blog Buscaciència.

To rediscover Barcelona

To know Barcelona, its history, art, and its role as European and Mediterranean capital city is the main aim of the course Paseando por Barcelona, coordinated by Sergi Martínez, lecturer from the Department of Human Geography of UB. The course, which takes place from 14 to 18 July, combines explanations in the classroom with guided visits of the sites described in class. Participants will get closer to Roman and Medieval Barcelona but also to the most modern architecture that characterises the city.

Particularly, we highlight the sessions that take place on 16 and 17 July. On Wednesday 16 July, Xavier Gil, professor from the Department of Modern History of UB, gives the lecture "La Barcelona moderna, la revolución industrial y la expansión urbana del siglo XIX". On Thursday 17 July, Mary Nash, professor from the Department of Contemporary History of UB, pronounces the lecture "La Barcelona roja, desde el cambio de siglo a la Guerra Civil. Red Barcelona", which is part of a session that includes the guided visit of the Pavelló de la República of UB.

Other courses
