The Faculty of Geography and History and the Film‐History Research Centre of UB organise the 4th Film & History International Conference, which takes place from 3 to 5 September in Barcelona, under the title “Memòria històrica i cinema documental” (Historical memory and documentary films). The main objective of the conference is to reflect on the role that cinema and documentary films play in recovering historical memory.

Josep Maria Caparrós, professor of Contemporary History and Cinema at the University of Barcelona (UB), and Magí Crusells, deputy director of the Film‐History Research Centre, have developed a wide programme of activities that happen at the Faculty of Geography and History of UB.

Among speakers, we highlight the participation of Jean‐Claude Seguin, professor at Lumière University Lyon 2, who opens the conference with the lecture “Los hermanos Lumière, o la génesis del cine documental”. José Carlos Suárez, from the Universitat Rovira i Virgili; Esteve Riambau, from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona; Sasa Markus, from Pompeu Fabra University, and Magí Crusells, from UB, also pronounce conference's lectures. Albert Solé, journalist, producer and director of documentary films, and Maria Dolors Genovès, lecturer at Ramon Llull University give the lectures that close the conference.

Other activities will be also carried out: book presentations, documentary screenings and the premiere of the documentary film Cinema en temps de guerra (2014), by Bartomeu Vilà, at the Filmoteca de Catalunya. Moreover, the Film‐History Award for the best research will be given to Fernando Sanz Ferreruela, lecturer at the University of Zaragoza.

The conference includes a total of 103 presentations pronounced by many international researchers from the United States, Brazil, Mexico, Ecuador, Colombia, Chile, Peru, United Kingdom, France, Italy, Slovakia and Hungary.
