The Faculty of Fine Arts first exhibits part of its art collection to commemorate its 35th anniversary
“Denominació dʼorigen: col·lecció Belles Arts” is the title of the exhibition organised by the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Barcelona (UB) —the only one in Catalonia— to celebrate its 35th anniversary. From 3 to 26 September, the Faculty exhibits part of its art collection at different places around the city. It is the first time that the collection is shown to the general public in such a wide way. The exhibition includes twenty-five art pieces that will be distributed among seven different locations in the city, for instance: the Museu Nacional dʼArt de Catalunya, the Vila Casas Foundation, the vestibule of the Historic Building of UB and the Faculty of Fine Arts. Entrance is free.
“The exhibition is a selection of the best works created by lecturers and students who have been members of the Faculty throughout its history”, explains Dolors Pulido, coordinator of the art collection. Exhibited works belong to different periods and artistic disciplines: the oldest one dates back to 1945 and the most recent one to 2011. Among artists, we found people as distinguished as Yago Hortal and Guim Tió.
One of the main objectives of the exhibition is to promote the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Barcelona among the general public as a centre that promotes and creates contemporary art. It constitutes and opportunity to get closer to the Facultyʼs rich art collection, which has a total of 1,549 catalogued works, from the forties to present days.
The exhibition has been organised by the Faculty of Fine Arts of UB, supported by the Office of the Vice-Rector for Institutional Relations and Culture, the Office of the Vice-Rector for and Students and Language Policy, and the Learning and Research Resources Centre (CRAI) of UB, among others.
