The University of Barcelona (UB) participated in the fair Expoquimia 2014 in which the Barcelona Knowledge Campus (BKC), one of UBʼs campus of International excellence, presented the BKC Chemistry.

The BKC Chemistry is a strategic unit that gathers several BKC centres (faculties, schools, and research institutes) in the field of chemistry. The aim is to join the experience that these institutions have in research and knowledge transfer, particularly regarding chemistry effects on peopleʼs lives.

The presentation was conducted by the dean of the Faculty of Chemistry of the UB, Pere Lluís Cabot; the director of the Institute of Advanced Chemistry of Catalonia (IQAC-CSIC), Ramon Eritja, and the deputy director of the Department of Chemical Engineering at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, Montserrat Pérez Moya.

In addition, the Thermal Spray Center (CPT) of the UB had a stand at Expoquimia 2014. CPT experts presented the Cold Gas Spray, an innovative technology in surface engineering.

The Bosch i Gimpera Foundation (FBG) also participated in the fair. It presented the technologies that the UB has available for licensing and its research lines as the provider of technology solutions in biotechnology and health sciences, chemistry and pharmacy, materials and construction, energy, environment and water, and agriculture, livestock breeding and food.

Expoquimia took place from 30 September to 3 October at Fira de Barcelona. It coincided with Eurosurfas and Equiplast, two benchmark events in the sectors of plastics and surface treatment, respectively. The fact that all three events are being held simultaneously make Barcelona the industrial and scientific capital of the chemical industry in Spain and southern Europe.
