Today, the University of Barcelona has launched a website in Chinese that contains general information about its five-hundred-year history, academic offerings, the research developed at it, some data extracted from the most prestigious international rankings and some figures concerning Universityʼs internationalization.

The vice-rector for International Policy, Dr Maria Callejón, affirms that “the launch of this portal is a step forward in the internationalization of the University of Barcelona”. “The collaboration with Chinese universities —she highlights— is intense. Nowadays, we have more than three hundred Chinese students at UB”.

The creation of the Chinese website will bring the UB closer to Asian countries and it will strengthen Universityʼs presence in China. The UB has signed about twenty collaboration agreements with the most important Chinese institutions, for instance Jimei University, Renmin University, Sichuan University and Beijing Language and Culture University. Moreover, in 2010, the UB set up the Confucius Institute Foundation in Barcelona (FICB), together with the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), Casa Asia and the Beijing Foreign Studies University. The Foundation is a non-profit institution that aims to promote the teaching of Chinese language and culture in Catalonia. In 2013, the University of Barcelona took up the presidency of the Foundation, which has been headquartered at UBʼs Casa Jeroni Granell for some months.

The University of Barcelona has strong relations with Europe, Arab countries, Latin America and North America, so it is a link among these regions. The UB is member of prestigious networks like the League of European Research Universities (LERU), an association of twenty-one leading research-intensive universities; the European University Association (EUA), the most important university association in Europe, and the Arab-Euro Conference on Higher Education (AECHE), whose Secretariat is headquartered at the UB.
