EU-funded projects are developed at eleven different schools and centres of the University. The Faculty of Chemistry is the top school in the number of projects with a total of seven. It is followed by the Faculty of Physics, with six, the Faculty of Biology, with four, and the Faculty of Economics and Business, with three. The Faculty of Psychology has two projects, and the faculties of Fine Arts, Pharmacy, Philosophy, Mathematics, Education and the Learning and Research Resources Centre (CRAI) have one project each. The Department of Fundamental Physics holds a remarkable position as it has five EU-funded projects. However, the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology is the one that has received the highest amount of EU funding.

Last April, it was published that Catalonia received more than 110 million euros from Horizon 2020 in 2014. Out of this total, 71 million euros were given to transnational research and innovation projects of companies, technological centres, universities and other organizations of the Catalan research and innovation system.

The University of Barcelona has set up some actions to help researchers participate in these calls and, so far, results have been successful.
