The ceremony for the first edition of the UB-DANONE Chair Award took place on Monday April 7th in Aula Magna (Historic Building). The award was given to the top UB bachelor's degree final projects on the Human Nutrition and Dietetics and the Food Science and Technology 2014-2015 bachelor degrees. This award is driven by UB and DANONE in order to carry out activities on health and food education and promotion within the UB-DANONE Chair framework. The awarded projects were “Microbiota intestinal, Diabetes Mellitus y nutrición” by student Noemí García under the supervision of Professor Maria Mercedes Berlanga; and “Estudi de Polímers dʼImpressió Molecular (MIPs) en lʼanàlisi dʼantibiòtics en matrius alimentàries” by student Arena Lascorz under the supervision of Professors Cristina Minguillón and Dolors Barrón.

The ceremony was headed by Doctor Lourdes Cirlot, the Vice-Rector of Institutional Relations and Culture, with the presence of the DANONE Iberia and DANONE S.A General Director, Jérôme Boesch, the General Director of the Nutrition, Quality and Food and Agriculture Industry at Generalitat de Catalunya, Antoni Díaz; the Director of the Food and Nutrition Torribera Campus, Màrius Rubiralta, and the Director of the UB-DANONE Chair, Maria Carmen Vidal.

After the awards ceremony, Doctor Abel Mariné, professor emeritus of the Department of Nutrition and Bromatology in UB, gave a speech about the history of the yogurt and its story with Barcelona.

The UB-DANONE Chair, located in the Food and Nutrition Torribera Campus, is a result of the university-business collaborative work aiming to promote and spread knowledge about yogurt and fermented milk in the field of food, nutrition and health -in order to spread this knowledge to society.
