The University of Barcelona holds the 49th world position and it is the only one at a state level which appears to be within the 50 top universities regarding scientific performance, according to URAP 2015-2016 (University Ranking by Academic Performance), a list made by the Middle East Technical University (METU) in Turkey, which evaluates the performance of 2,000 universities worldwide.

The University of Barcelona holds the 49th world position and it is the only one at a state level which appears to be within the 50 top universities regarding scientific performance, according to URAP 2015-2016 (University Ranking by Academic Performance), a list made by the Middle East Technical University (METU) in Turkey, which evaluates the performance of 2,000 universities worldwide.

The University of Barcelona has improved its rank position compared to past editions, and has moved from 52th to 49th position -and at a European level from 14th to 13th position- ; plus, it stands out as the only Spanish university honored with the maximum international category (A++) that this ranking includes. The other best ranked universities from Spain are Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (119th position) and the University of Valencia in the 188th position, withing the international ranking.

The URAP ranking evaluates the academic institutions scientific activity impact with several bibliometric indicators related to the scientific efficiency, research impact (citations) or the amount of international collaborations, among others.

The University of Barcelona stands out specially on some indicators such as the amount of scientific publications, where it gains a score of 92.89; and in citations, with a score of 92.52.

URAP 2016 includes 2,000 universities from all over the world- around a 10% of all the higher education institutions worldwide- and it is leaded once again by Harvard University (USA), the University of Toronto (Canada), the University of Oxford (UK), the Johns Hopkins University (USA) and the University of Cambridge (UK).
