Today June 1, the enrolment for the summer courses of the School of Modern Languages (EIM) of the University of Barcelona opens. There is a wide range of courses. There are 100, 50, 40 and 20-hour face-to-face learning courses for eighteen languages (German, English, Arabic, Danish, French, Greek, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Dutch, Norwegian, Persian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Swedish and Chinese). For the first time, this year the express English courses are introduced. They last a week and aim to revise and strengthen knowledge, correct mistakes and acquire the levels B1, B2.1 and B2.2.

More financial aids

It is also important to mention the wide range of financial aids aimed at the students of the University of Barcelona who study languages in EIM, which can cover up to the total amount of the course prices. On the one hand, the Parla 3 financial aids cover up to 350 euros of the registration for the German, English, French and Italian courses (levels A2 and B1 and sublevels B2.1 and B2.2). These grants can be completed with the financial aids of the program bkUB for the 50 and 100 hour courses, which also have a maximum amount of 350 euros. Moreover, the financial aids result from the agreement between the University of Barcelona and Casio, and cover the total amount for the price of the 20-hour express English courses. Lastly, the grants for the students who participate in the international mobility program of the University of Barcelona for the 2016-2017 academic courses cover the total price of the course (50 or 40 hours) or half of intensive 100-hour courses to complete the linguistic competence before transferring to the hosting university. EIM is a service that allows acquiring and getting accreditation for the knowledge of a third language with the guarantee of the University of Barcelona. For each course the students pass in EIM they can obtain up to six ECTS credits.
