The twenty years of Els Juliols were celebrated yesterday with a party at the Historical Building of the University of Barcelona with very diverse offers: Doctor Pratsʼ music, the entertainment of Fricandó matiner or the presentation of the book that collects the history of these 20 years of the summer courses, among other activities.

The starting point of the event was the recording of a 2-hour radio program: El Fricandó matiner, by Vador Lladó, with the participation of the usual collaborators of this morning program, broadcasted every morning in RAC105.

The party coincided with the book presentation of Els Juliols de la Universitat de Barcelona. Vint anys dʼhistòria, coordinated by Professor Carles Carreras, founder of Els Juliols, with a prologue by the Rector Dídac Ramírez. The book has nine chapters which are written by different lecturers and PAS members of the University who had a distinguished participation in the development of the activity. Over the course of the presentation, Carreras thanked the authors of the book who “represent the thousands of lecturers of the University of Barcelona and the ones abroad, who coordinated courses and conferences, to the more than 25.000 students who registered up to now, to the University of Barcelona and the cities where Els Juliols have been held. They are Els Juliols, Els Juliols are made possible thanks to all of them”.  Xavier Varea, Director of the Area for Complementary Training, said that “Els Juliols is a mark that is linked to their offer with no need to explain” and stated that “with only 19 days since the registration dates, it is more successful than the last two years”. The Rector, Dídac Ramírez, stated that Els Juliols are “one of those projects that come to stay, because they have something that makes them unique and necessary. The need to share that knowledge is a human being necessity, as well as willing to become known and going further. In competitiveness, great universities have in mind that apart from education, research, transfer and innovation, they have a social function: to be in touch with society and people are the society”.

The attendants could watch a performance by the the casteller group Els Arreplegats de la Zona Universitàsia, a group formed by university Students from Barcelona. The group, with more than 100 members, was founded in 1995 by a group of students who wanted to practice their interest in human towers in the university, and aim to bring the castellers world closer to the university community.

There was also an instagramers meeting in which there were eight participants, all students of the University of Barcelona. These were the winners of the #concursinstaUB contest, and they had the role of ambassadors of the University, together with two influent instragramers from Barcelona. The group could enjoy a guided visit around areas of the Historical Building which are usually closed to the public -so that they could take creative pictures of unknown areas such as the Science Tower or the Reserve Collection, among other places. The aim was to get the best pictures of the event, which can be seen on Instagram tagged as #JuliolsUB20 and @UniBarcelona.

At the end of the party, it was time for Doctor Pratsʼs performance. They presented their new album Aham sigah. This recent band appears in Enderrock ʻs cover of June, and is formed by Josep Jaume Rey (classic guitar and backing vocals), Miki Santamaria (bass and backing vocals), Oriol Cors (drums and backing vocals), Mark-e Riera (vocals and guitar), Víctor Martínez (keyboard), Guillem Boltó (trombone and backing vocals) and Ramon Figueras (trumpet and backing vocals).
