The University of Barcelona stands out once more among the top 100 universities worldwide and it is leader in Spain, according to the prestigious international ranking Best Global Universities (BGU). The University of Barcelona holds the 86th position worldwide and gains four positions compared to last edition, whereas in Europe it holds the 24th and gains two positions compared to 2015.

The University of Barcelona stands out once more among the top 100 universities worldwide and it is leader in Spain, according to the prestigious international ranking Best Global Universities (BGU). The University of Barcelona holds the 86th position worldwide and gains four positions compared to last edition, whereas in Europe it holds the 24th and gains two positions compared to 2015.

 

The new edition of the ranking is based on a set of indicators such as global research reputation, regional reputation, scientific publications, total citations, conferences and international collaborations, among other bibliometric indicators.

 

US institutions dominate the new edition of Best Global Universities ranking, led by Harvard University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford University, the University of California-Berkeley, and the California Institute of Technology. Regarding Spain, the University of Barcelona is followed by the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (167), Pompeu Fabra University (187), Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (219) and the University of Valencia (265).

 

34th position worldwide in Clinical Medicine and Neurosciences and Behaviour

 

The University of Barcelona stands out in Clinical Medicine and Neuroscience and Behaviour, two areas of knowledge with which it holds the 34th position at a global scale, and leads the list at a state scale. It is also one of the top 50 institutions worldwide in the areas of knowledge of Agricultural Sciences (41), Molecular Biology and Genetics (50) and Pharmacology and Toxicology (40).

 

Apart from the mentioned disciplines, the University of Barcelona is also one of the top 100 institutions in Biology and Biochemistry (74), Chemistry (83), Environment/Ecology (63); Immunology (58), Plant and Animal Science (64), Psychiatry/Psychology (55), Social Sciences and Public Health (74), and Space Science (86). It also holds position number 104 in Arts and Humanities, 136 in Geosciences, 141 in Materials Sciences, 116 in Microbiology, 174 in Physics and 220 in Engineering.

 

Leader in Spain in 13 out of the 19 disciplines of the BGU ranking

 

In the Spanish university map, the University of Barcelona is the leading institution in the fields of Biology and Biochemistry, Chemistry, Clinical Medicine, Environment/Ecology, Neuroscience and Behaviour, Pharmacology and Toxicology, Plant and Animal Biology, Psychiatry/Psychology, and Social Sciences and Public Health.
