The Monarchs welcome representatives of the Severo Ochoa centres and Maria de Maeztu Units

On June 6 in La Zarzuela, the Kings of Spain welcomed directors and representatives of the centres and units that were honoured with the biggest institutional distinction for scientific research in Spain, the Severo Ochoa centres and Maria de Maeztu units. The event was presented by the Secretary of State for Research, Development and Innovation, Carmen Vela.

Representatives of the University of Barcelona also attended the event: Josep Maria Paredes, scientific Director of the Institute of Cosmos Sciences of the UB, distinguished with Maria de Maetzu certificate; Josep Samitier, Professor from the Department of Engineering and Director of the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC); and Joan Guinovart, Professor from the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biomedicine and Director of the Biomedicine Research Institute (IRB Barcelona), these last two with Severo Ochoa certificate. The Centre for Research in Agricultural Genomics (CRAG) and the Barcelona Graduate School of Mathematics (BGSMath), both participants of the University of Barcelona, have the Severo Ochoa certificate of excellence.
