Through the UB Solidarity Foundation and the Institute of Education Sciences (ICE), the University of Barcelona announces its twelfth edition of the Research Prize for Peace, in which upper-secondary school students (registered in Catalan high schools during the academic year 2016-2017) can submit their culture of peace-related research projects.

Some of the different topics linked to this field are international solidarity, human development, sustainability, social movements, human rights, conflicts, interculturality, among others.

The objective of this Prize, supported by the Barcelona City Council, is to promote education for peace in all fields of upper-secondary education and to reinforce peace of culture from the research field.

The projects have to be submitted to UB Solidarity Foundation (C. Melcior de Palau, 140, Barcelona) until March 31, 2017. The projects can be handed in at the caretaker of Centre UB in Sants, which is open from 8h to 21h. They can also be sent by mail (dated prior March 31 at the latest).

The Prize (consisting of a 500€ check for the author of the project, and another check for the educational center where it has been carried out) is decided by an interdisciplinary jury entirely formed by lecturers from the University of Barcelona. In order to choose the awarded project, the jury assesses: the link and coherence of the project with culture of peace; the critical thinking and methodological rigor in the researchʼs development; the integration of the local and global extensions when treating the subject; originality; and contribution of the research in bringing content to the culture of peace.

Rules can be read at the site of the Prize (in Catalan). For more information, please contact UB Solidarity Foundation through email (recercapau@ub.edu) or telephone (93 403 96 12).

Since the 2014-2015 academic year, the Research Prize for Peace is jointly given with Joan Gomis Prize of the City Council of Santa Coloma de Gramenet, which awards the best research project by students of this city (according to juryʼs judgment). Also, since the fifth edition of the Prize, the Area Council of Garraf has collaborated giving an own award to the best research project carried out in an educational center of this area.
