The main objective of the RESCUE project is to support universities in Turkey, Iraq, Lebanon and Jordan to create and support ad hoc units of operational support for the refugee university students (R-SOS), whose aim is to structure specific services that give advice to this collective in resuming their academic education itinerary, giving them access to standard university programs in the same conditions of the rest of students, and offering them specific educational courses to acquire skills to have access to employability.

The University of Barcelona will also attend the workshop organized by the UNIMED on February 15 at the Italian capital to debate on the situation of the refugees in higher education institutions, both in Europe and MENA region. The workshop will have the attendance of representatives of Iraqi, Lebanese and Jordanian universities.

RESCUE is one of the projects the University of Barcelona promotes within the Supporting program for refugees and people coming from conflict areas, coordinated by the UB Solidarity Foundation. In the same program, and in an agreement with the Barcelona City Council, the UB organizes a transition course to bachelor studies, which is followed by fifteen Syrian and Afghan students aged between 18 and 24.
