Francisco Sánchez Montero was appointed new General Manager of the University of Barcelona by the Rector, Joan Elias, after the agreement of the Board of Trustees of the UB, that held a meeting on Wednesday April 26. During the ceremony in the Governing Council, today Thursday, the rector thanked the outgoing general manager, Jordi Codina, for his tasks and dedication during the last three years, his “impeccable elegance” and his collaboration at all times. Codina also thanked the rector for his trust and respect, and the collaboration from the university community, which favoured the good work despite being in a difficult context. He also commented on pending challenges: a reconsideration of the teaching staff policy, an improvement in finance, and aligning all institutions from the Group.

Francisco Sánchez Montero was appointed new General Manager of the University of Barcelona by the Rector, Joan Elias, after the agreement of the Board of Trustees of the UB, that held a meeting on Wednesday April 26. During the ceremony in the Governing Council, today Thursday, the rector thanked the outgoing general manager, Jordi Codina, for his tasks and dedication during the last three years, his “impeccable elegance” and his collaboration at all times. Codina also thanked the rector for his trust and respect, and the collaboration from the university community, which favoured the good work despite being in a difficult context. He also commented on pending challenges: a reconsideration of the teaching staff policy, an improvement in finance, and aligning all institutions from the Group.

The new general manager starts this new period willing to develop “the guidelines of the rector and the governing bodies” as well as the “transparency, dialogue, and advance towards university autonomy with responsibility, in a context of guidance for society, students and knowledge, with the support of all professionals within the framework of the available resources”. Among the most immediate actions, Sánchez Montero highlights the “ones related to the 2017 budget, the stabilization for the high rate of temporality, tackling the average age range of the staff, and a standardised regulation of a balance in the personal, family and working life for the staff.

Francisco Sánchez Montero graduated in Law at the University of Barcelona and did his postgraduate studies in Public Administration at the UPC. Graduated in Executive Master in Public Administration at ESADE and in Tax Law at EAE. He holds a master degree in University Teaching for New Teaching Staff at ICE and the university master degree in Advanced Public Management at the UB.

His professional career has been linked to the local public sector and the public health sector, both in administrative management and business management. He has been in charge of directive tasks at the Diputació de Barcelona (Governing Council of Barcelona), the Health Corporation Parc Taulí and the City Council of Terrassa in all fields of corporate management (Organization and Human Resources, Economy, Finance and Heritage, Information System, Logistics, Construction and Recruitment, among others). He has been steward, counsellor and secretary of the administration council of several public and mixed market associations, coordinator of the Advisory Council for the Economic and Financial and Heritage Management of the Catalan Hospital Association, member of the Plenary Session of the Sabadell Chamber of Commerce and Sponsor of the Factor Humà Foundation.

He is currently a technical expert in the Economic Development Area of the Diputació de Barcelona, adjunct lecturer of Administrative Law at the Faculty of Law of the UB and collaborating lecturer at the Public Administration School of Catalonia (EAPC) and the National Institute of Public Administration (INAP), professional tasks he abandons to be appointed General Manager of the UB.
