On Wednesday May 3, the ceremony for the FilCat.UB Awards took place at the University of Barcelona. These awards honor the research projects on Catalan language and literature by students of upper secondary schools. The ceremony took place at Sala de Graus of the Faculty of Philology and it was chaired by the Vice-Rector for Students and Language Policy, Alba Ambròs. The event counted with the participation of Neus Nogué and Glòria Casals, heads of the sections of Catalan Language and Literature, respectively; the coordinator of the awards, Francesc Bernat, and the writer Maria Carme Roca, who gave the speech “Passió per la recerca històrica i literària” (Passion for history and literature research).

The awardees have been, in the category of literature, Xavier Domínguez Rovira, from Institut Pere Vives i Vich (Igualada), for his project Una Mirada al relat breu. Històries corrents dʼIgualada. In the category of language, the award ex aequo was given to two projects: Toponímia de lʼOlla de Núria i Capçalera del Freser, by Genís Esteva Agustí, from Institut Bell-lloc del Pla (Girona), and Professionals del cinema.cat by Dolça Alcañiz i Macias from Institut Antoni de Martí i Franquès (Tarragona). The three awardees and the educational centers received 150 euros each. Also, the awarded projects will be published on the website of the Department of Catalan Philology and General Linguistics.

The second and third prizes were also given in this ceremony in each of the categories. In literature, the project Josep Anselm Clavé, un llegat tregiversat per la història by Núria Poch i Franco (IES Manueal de Cabanyes in Vilanova i la Geltrú), was awarded with the second prize, 100 euros for the student and another check for the school. The third prize was given to Cíntia Peña i Rué (IES Samuel Gili Gaya in Lleida) for Projecte Spira. El rèquiem dels Déus. Regarding the category of language, the second prize remained unawarded and the third prize was given to El català, en mans dels joves by Maria Romà i Riera (INS Domènec Perramon, in Arenys de Munt). All the awardees received a set of UB merchandise.

The FilCat.UB Awards are an initiative of the Catalan Philology Studies from the Department of Catalan Philology and General Linguistics of the UB, aimed at students of upper secondary school from all educational centers in the Catalan-speaking territory. The aim of these awards is to promote the research projects from upper high school students about any aspects on the Catalan language and literature, to create vocations for the study of Catalan philology and promote the educational tasks in high schools.
