The University of Barcelona received a donation from the family of Ricard Vaccaro. The donation is the authorʼs  sculpture ensemble Espai de meditació, a great work now set in the hall of the fourth floor of the faculties of Philosophy and Geography and History. The donation took place today, May 16, and counted with the participation of the rector of the UB, Joan Elias; the vice-rector for Arts, Culture and Heritage, Salvador García; Xavier Roigé and Josep Montserrat, deans of the faculties of Geography and History and Philosophy, as well as Montserrat Ribó, Joel and Ismael Vaccaro, widow and sons of Ricard Vaccaro, and the art critic Daniel Giralt-Miracle.

The sculptural ensemble has different polymethacrylate pieces attached to the roof. The rector Joan Elias noted that this piece of work will now be “in a proper place for peopleʼs pleasure and its preservation”, and that its installation responds to the line of the UB as being “an active and committed agent for this city”. The dean of the Faculty of Geography and History, Xavier Rogé, put emphasis on the fact that this work is well integrated in its assigned place, which holds scientific activities such as academic conferences. Then, Joel Vaccaro told that the family is glad to see the sculpture ensemble is in “a place which analyzes who we are and where we come from”. Daniel Giralt-Miracle, suggested visiting the sculpture ensemble in the evening, “when it gets more magical”, and commented on some elements of the work by Vaccaro: “All his work was calligraphy, a gift”, he said, and highlighted three dimensions of the artist, “the civic one, the artistic and the commitment to culture”.

Ricard Vaccaro (Barcelona, 1946 - Cornellà de Llobregat, 2916) was a painter and sculptor who worked preferably in Barcelona and its metropolitan area. The critic Daniel Giralt-Miracle defines his career as “rich and diverse”, with a “constant will of change in a single vision of the artistic fact”. Vaccaro combined his creative task with teaching in the school Escola Thau Barcelona. He was distinguished for his sculpture ensembles: Homenatge a Joan Miró (Cornellà de Llobregat, 1993), Homenatge a Jordi Solé Tura (Mollet del Vallès, 2011) and Diàleg, in the memorial dedicated to Ernest Lluch (Faculty of Economy and Business of the UB, 2001).
