Josep Dalmau, lecturer from the Department of Medicine of the UBand ICREA lecturer in IDIBAPS and consultant in the Neurology Department of Hospital Clínic has been awarded the Rey Jaime I award on medical research in a ceremony on October 30. This is the third year professionals from Clínic - IDIBALS and from the UB receive this award. Dr Josep Brugada was awarded in 2015 and Dr Elias Campo was awarded last year.

Josep Dalmau is an international me in the study of neurology and psychiatry. During the last seven years he identified eight autoimmune diseases in the brain. The studies of his group are focused on a kind of diseases related to autoimmunity, cancer and synaptic proteins. He has described new syndromes, related immunologic mechanisms, identified its synaptic antigens and has generated diagnostic tests, some of which are used worldwide.

This year the 14th edition of the Rey Jaime I Awards was held, dedicated to promote the science, research and entrepreneurship in Spain. The awards consist on a gold medal, diploma and an economic donation worth € 100,000. The awardees of each category are committed to invest part of the award on Spanish research.
