In February 2015, the University of Barcelona and the City Council agreed on the ceding of Can Ricart and Can Jaumandreu to the UB in order to create the Park of Humanities and Social Sciences of the UB, in 22@Barcelona (innovation district). Four months later, the UB arrived in Can Jaumandreu, the head office for the management and administration support offices of this project.

At the moment, the planned stages are stopped due the high cost of the project. Regarding this situation, the team of the Rectorʼs Office of the University of Barcelona decided to re-define this initiative, which will be now focused on the creation of a space revolving artistic learning. As it was said in the Governing Council today, the University of Barcelona is committed to look for the necessary synergies with other institutions, centers and entities from the artistic field to create a project that would promote a collaboration in this field at a city level, and would encourage professionalization around artistic studies, apart from providing an innovation framework regarding learning methodologies.

The University of Barcelona, with experience on artistic studies and which has affiliated centers such as the University School of Cinema and Visual Communication of Catalonia (ESCAC), is offering to play the role of academic and scientific leader of the project. The first step is to explore the creation of a foundation or consortium of several institutions to be in charge of the economic management of this operation. The new proposal by the UB has been agreed to by the Barcelona consistory .

The UB has based its project on a model which is similar to the one from Berlin University of the Arts, one of the most important universities worldwide regarding artistic studies. They teach, among other subjects, courses related to Fine Arts, Design, Music, Performing Arts and Architecture.

The UB believes this project would provide a meeting point for all artistic studies that are taught in the city.
