The former rector of the University of Barcelona, Dídac Ramírez, received the plate of the Civil Order of Alfonso X the Wise on April 5. The ceremony was chaired by the Minister of Education, Culture and Sports, Íñigo Méndez de Vigo. The former rector of the UAB, Anna Ripoll, was also awarded with this order in the ceremony.

The Civil Order of Alfonso X the Wise awards those physical and legal people and entities who have been honored by their merits in the fields of education, science, culture, teaching and research, or who have lent outstanding services to Spain or abroad.

Dídac Ramírez i Sarrió (Barcelona, 1946) has been the rector of the University of Barcelona during eight years, since 2008 until September 2016, when he retired. He has a large résumé as teacher and researcher. He is professor at the Department of Economic, Financial and Actuarial Mathematics of the Faculty of Economics and Business (1990), and holds a doctorate in Economic and Business Sciences (1989) and in Philosophy and Educational Sciences (1982) at the same University. He held three different academic positions at the University of Barcelona and has been President of Societat Catalana de Filosofia (Catalan Society of Philosophy, 2001-2007), treasurer of Futbol Club Barcelona (2003) and member of the Administration Council of Quinta Salut lʼAliança (2207). He is currently full member of the Spanish Royal Academy of Economic and Financial Sciences. Also, he has published numerous articles in scientific journals and books, supervised doctoral theses, has been the main researcher in several national and European projects and has participated in conferences in the fields of economy and philosophy. His latest publication is the book Universitat, valors i societat (2012).
