Last Friday, November 10, more than 130 people attended the 9th Session on Drug Addictions held at the Aula Magna of the Historical Building, this year under the logo “La inserció laboral: un esglaó indispensable per superar una addicció” (integration to labour market: an essential step to overcome an addiction). The activity was organized within the agreement framework of the collaboration between the University of Barcelona, through the Student Support Services, and the NGO Projecte Home Catalunya.

The session opening was held by the rector of the University of Barcelona, Joan Elias; the director of the Public Employment Service of Catalonia, Mercè Garau; the delegate of Public Health and Consume Affairs of the Barcelona Provincial Council, Laura Martínez; and the director of Projecte Home Catalunya, Oriol Esculies. The program had a speech on the integration to the labour market by vulnerable people and two roundtables with experts to talk about labour opportunities for people with addictions and at risk of social exclusion.

This yearʼs edition was focused on the field of labour market integration due the difficulties people with addictions face when looking for a job. This fact is conditioned due the precarious work situation and the personal circumstances of these people, usually isolated from labour market. According to the organizer entities, during the rehab process in people with addictions, a decent job is an essential factor for a more autonomous and society-integrated life.

The activity put emphasis the reached advances and the still existent uncertainties of labour market integration for people who are in a situation of social exclusion and, in particular, the collective with addictions in order to consider new proposals.

The University of Barcelona has signed a collaboration agreement with the NGO Projecte Home, which works to treat and prevent drug addictions in Catalonia, and organizes colloquiums, conferences and sessions to bring the reality of drug and other addictions closer to students and lecturers.
