The 31st Cycle of Music at the University is back on Thursday
The 31st Cycle of Music at the University of Barcelona starts on Thursday, April 12. The poster includes five concerts which will take place between April and June. The Choir of the Faculty of Pharmacy of the UB and the Opera Workshop of Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC) will perform this April. UB Big Band will do so in May. And the Orchestra of the UB will offer the two last concerts, one in May with the Choir of the University, and another in June, solo, to close the cycle.
The 31st Cycle of Music at the University of Barcelona starts on Thursday, April 12. The poster includes five concerts which will take place between April and June. The Choir of the Faculty of Pharmacy of the UB and the Opera Workshop of Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC) will perform this April. UB Big Band will do so in May. And the Orchestra of the UB will offer the two last concerts, one in May with the Choir of the University, and another in June, solo, to close the cycle.
The concerts, with a high artistic quality, are aimed at all the university community and society in general. Its repertoire is wide and heterogeneous, ranging from classical works, religious pieces, to modern works. All concerts will take place in the Paranimph of the Historical Building of the University (Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, 585). Entrance is free but there is limited capacity. Tickets (maximum two per person) can be collected online, in the website Cultura de la UB, or in person, at the UB Store in the Historical Building during the same week of the concert (from 9.30 a.m. to 2.30 p.m. and from 4 p.m. to 6.30 p.m.) until maximum capacity is reached.
Program for the third term:
April 12. Choir of the Faculty of Pharmacy of the UB
Founded in April, 1997, this university choir has gained presence in the world of choirs in Catalonia thanks to their productions over the last years. This year, they will offer a Fauré concert, in the Paranimph of the University of Barcelona, together with the Deutsche Schule Barcelona Choir and OH! (Orquestra Simfònica dʼexalumnes del Conservatori de Terrassa). Other participants are the soprano Marta Garcia Cdena, the baritone Tomàs Maxé, and the cellist Maria Quiñones. They will play a selection of works by Gabriel Fauré (1845-1924). The program is available here.
April 26. Opera Workshop of Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC)
The ESMUC Opera Workshop is part of the studentsʼ syllabus and is the culminating part of the end-of-course project. For the first time, they will perform in the UB to play Orlando, by G. F. Handel. The play will be performed by the schoolʼs students, conducted by three members of the teaching staff regarding musical conducting, scene conducting and vocal conducting.
May 10. Big Band of the University of Barcelona
The UB Big Band is unique in the Catalan university musical scene. It is formed by fifteen amateur musicians, who are members of the UB community. Their repertoire has works from different styles, typical of big bands.
May 24. Choir and Orchestra of the University of Barcelona
Created in 1989, the Choir of the UB is the heir of a long tradition. It is formed by students, lecturers and other members of the University and people outside the university field. Its repertoire covers all ages and styles, acapella and with instruments.
June 14. Orchestra of the University of Barcelona
The Orchestra of the University of Barcelona (OUB), created in 2002, is an amateur symphonic group with a high quality, formed mainly by students, lecturers and former students of the UB..
