The Paranimph of the Historical Building held the ceremony for the Awards of the Doctors Senate for the 2016 and 2017 editions, as well as the extraordinary doctoral prizes for the courses 2014-2015 and 2015-2016, on Thursday. The ceremony was chaired by the vice-rector for Doctoral Studies and Research Promotion of the UB, Francesc Xavier Roigé; the emeritus professor of Theoretical Physics of the University of Valencia, José Bartomeu; the secretary-general of the UB, Belén Noguera, and the director of the Institute of Education Sciences, Xavier Triadó. d

The Paranimph of the Historical Building held the ceremony for the Awards of the Doctors Senate for the 2016 and 2017 editions, as well as the extraordinary doctoral prizes for the courses 2014-2015 and 2015-2016, on Thursday. The ceremony was chaired by the vice-rector for Doctoral Studies and Research Promotion of the UB, Francesc Xavier Roigé; the emeritus professor of Theoretical Physics of the University of Valencia, José Bartomeu; the secretary-general of the UB, Belén Noguera, and the director of the Institute of Education Sciences, Xavier Triadó. d

After Francesc Xavier Roigé and Professor José Bartomeuʼs speeches, the secretary-general gave the extraordinary doctoral prizes to more than a hundred awardees. Afterwards, the Choir of the UB offered a musical performance and the vice-rector for Doctoral Studies and Research Promotion gave way to the 20th and 21st editions of the Doctorsʼ Senate Awards.

The 20th Doctors Senate Awards was given to Marta Kulis, who was awarded in 2016 with Premi Arrel for her thesis Decipehering the DNA methylome of normal and neoplastic B cells, co-supervised by the lecturer José Ignacio Martín Subero abd Professor Elias Campo Güerri, from the Department of Basic Clinical Practice of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. The 2017 edition of the award was given to Thaís Armangué, for the thesis Autoimmunitat sinàptica com a causa dʼencefalitis associada a teratoma, epilèpsia i recidives postencefalitis herpètica a la infància, supervised by the lecturer Josep Dalmau, from the Department of Medicine of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences.

There were two honourable mentions for these two editions as well. The researcher Xavier Camprubí Pla was awarded the 2016 mention for his work Lʼimpressor Rafael Figueró (1642-1726) i la premsa a la Catalunya del seu temps, supervised by Agustí Alcoberro, lecturer at the Department of History and Archaeology at the Facult of Geography and History. Jesús Lozano Fernández was given the second 2016 mention for the thesis Mecanisme dʼacció de lʼhormona juvenil en la metamorfosi dels insectes, led by Xavier Bellés, lecturer at the Department of Animal Biology of the Faculty of Biology.

The 2017 honorable mention was awarded to Joan Camuñas Soler, for his Force-spectroscopy of small ligands binding to nucleic acids, supervised by Fèlix Ritort, professor at the Department of Fundamental Physics of the Faculty of Physics. Also, Maria Amuedo Castillo, Carles Barceló Pascual, Sebastià Riutort Isern and Gerard Rosich were given diplomas.

The Doctors Senate Awards of the University of Barcelona was created to honor the PhD thesis that are read and examined in this institution and are relevant contribuitions to the human knowledge and science progress.
