A delegation of the Trinity College Dublin, led by Provost Patrick Prendergast, gathered with Rector Joan Elias, the vice-rectors for Outreach and Internationalisation and Research, and other members of the directing council of the University of Barcelona in the Historical Building of the UB. Both institutions decided to create a strategic partnership between both universities so as to strengthen research and teaching in both centers.

A delegation of the Trinity College Dublin, led by Provost Patrick Prendergast, gathered with Rector Joan Elias, the vice-rectors for Outreach and Internationalisation and Research, and other members of the directing council of the University of Barcelona in the Historical Building of the UB. Both institutions decided to create a strategic partnership between both universities so as to strengthen research and teaching in both centers.

Trinity College is the main university in Ireland and one of the most important intensive research universities worldwide. Member of the LERU, it carries out its academic activity in almost all areas of knowledge. It is one of the oldest universities in Europe and it currently has about 17,000 students and an alumni community of 92,000 members. The Trinity College and the UB have similar profiles, with strengths in common, such as biomedicine, neurosciences, and several fields in physical sciences and humanities. This offers an excellent basis to promote student mobility as well as teaching staff and administration and service staff mobility between both universities, and the development of joint research project and creating dual or joint degree studies. In the meeting with the UB, they decided to work during the upcoming months on these three action lines aiming to tie bonds and reach a strategic partnership.


At the moment, Trinity College and the UB have collaborations such as the participation of both in Eurolife, formed by nine European institutions that are highly committed to the field of research and higher education in the field of life and health sciences. Both universities are also involved in joint European research projects and keep their student exchange activity.
