Most of the courses in Els Juliols take place in the Historical Building of the University of Barcelona, but some, depending on their features, are taught in Hospitalet de Llobregat, Montmeló, Sant Joan Despí, Santa Coloma de Gramenet, Viladecans and Vilafranca del Penedès. This happens with the Summer Women School, organized together with the City Council of Cornellà de Llobregat and carried out in Citilab-Cornellà. It includes four 20-hour courses which take place from July 2 to 6 during mornings.
The aim of the program is to offer an alternative training regarding gender equality to update knowledge and exchange information and opinion from a gender perspective, as well as to analyse current affairs which are not always commented on during the academic year. This yearʼs courses are: Dona, salut i qualitat de vida, Les mestres: el llegat en lʼeducació, Mata-Hari i lʼespionatge femení en la història, and Sàvies: lʼherència de les dones en el coneixement.

This year, there will be twenty courses especially aimed at the professional audience, which are shorter than other courses: 16, 12 and 8-hour courses. This is the case of two courses regarding the topic of water: La qüestió de lʼaigua: cooperació i conflicte al segle XXI and Les aigües envasades al detall, both are 12-hour courses and are taught during June. The former will take place on June 20 and 21 and the latter on June 28 and 29.

As usual, with the aim of offering courses for everyone, this yearʼs program includes many new items, such as the course Filosofies i polítiques de vida, coordinated by the lecturer Laura Llevadot and which will treat the topic of life out of contemporary 20th century and early 21st century authors, such as Foucault, Derrida, Deleuze and Agamben.

Thereʼs room for science too, with the course Aliments i cervell, which analyses the bidirectional relation between food, nutrition, gastronomy and mental health, and Plantes i Salut,  which offers knowledge on those medicinal plants that can be useful in the treatment and healing of many common diseases.

Moreover, those courses that were most successful in the previous years are offered once again. This is the case of Passejant per Barcelona, which provides students with a deep knowledge of the city, from a historical and artistic point of view to the role as a European and Mediterranean capital;  and the course Les novetats de la normativa catalana, which analyses the main novelties of both works and will provide useful information to read and check Gramàtica de la llengua catalana, which was published last year by the Institute for Catalan Studies, and the course Imatges animades: història, producció i mercat, a tour around the history of national and international animated cinema, and a walk through its stages: the creative process, production, distribution, sale, and markets.

Discounts and economic aid

The UB collective, La Vanguardia and Núvol subscribers and users of Biblioteques de Barcelona will enjoy a special discount in any of the courses until the end of the registration period. Also, the students can validate two academic credits for each 20-hour course they join.

The registration for Els Juliols can be done until the first day of the chosen course (but those who apply for the grant have to do so before June 4). It can be done online in the website or in person, in the secretary offices of the Area of Further Training of the UB: in Barcelona, casa Jeroni Granell (Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, 582) and in the Historical Building (Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, 585); in Badalona, El Carme Cultural Centre (Francesc Layret, 78-82), and Sant Joan Despí, in Torre de la Creu (passeig de Canalies, 14).

Office hours are from Monday to Friday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
