Ricard Vinyes, Professor of Contemporary History at the UB led the work of Diccionario de la Memoria Colectiva (Gedisa, 2018). It gathers the work of 187 experts on international historical memory that identify, describe and analyse concepts that are used in the management of memory of political and social traumas in Europe and America during the 20th century and up to nowadays. This volume, already available in bookstores, will be presented on Thursday, October 4, at 7 p.m. in Fundació Antoni Tàpies. Participants in the presentation will be Ricard Vinyes and Alfredo Landman, director of Editorial Gedisa.

Published by Gedisa with the support of the European Observatory on Memories (EUROM) of the University of Barcelonaʼs Solidarity Foundation, Diccionario de la Memoria Colectiva aims to be a model work in the studies of collective memory, the interest in which has changed the agenda of the university research over the last ten years, both in history and the other disciplines in the fields of human and social sciences.

This work, in the shape of a dictionary, provides the identification and detailed analysis of historical episodes, concepts and categories of the studies on memory. The result is a total of 264 contributions and eight additional articles, each one signed by an expert and verified by the projectʼs scientific committee, formed by nineteen international distinguished experts on contemporary memory studies, such as Ricard Vinyes (University of Barcelona); Jordi Guixé (EUROM - University of Barcelona); Nancy Berthier (Sorbonne University); Elisabeth Jelin (Institute of Social and Economic Development in Buenos Aires); Isabel Piper (University of Chile) and Alessandro Portelli (La Sapienza University of Rome), among others.

The volume has the graphic support of some of the most significant images of contemporary history. A transverse annex gathers, in addition, the experience in other continents on the management of their memory, image of political and social traumas they lived after the Second World War, the international image and the policies that were later acquired.

Ricard Vinyes Ribas, coordinator of the book, is professor of Contemporary History at the University of Barcelona. His research on the reprisal of women during the Franco Regime or the silenced memory, in Spain and other Latin American countries, have been internationally distinguished.
