Known titles and distinguished guests, as well as new proposals on TV series, the most innovative virtual reality and music, are the mix to conquer the lovers of fantasy films.

Loyal to this ceremony, the Cinema and Audiovisual School of Catalonia (ESCAC), affiliated at the University of Barcelona, takes part in the Sitges Film Festival. It brings its activity to this ceremony and organizes its ESCAC Week. Also, as usual, it will be present in the program of the festival, this year with two titles by former students of the School: director Javier Ruiz Caldera presents the premiere of the film Superlópez, the film adaptation of the popular comic created by the drawer Juan López Jan: while Ibai Abad will present La otra vida, an original experience on virtual reality.

ESCAC Week: lessons move to Sitges

From October 8 to 13, ESCAC moves its classrooms to Sitges and organizes ESCAC Week, a program of screenings, conferences and master lessons in which around 400 students of the School take part. The objective is for the accredited ones in Sitges to live this artistic day from the inside, to understand international fantasy films and to take part in the country professional network.

World premiere for Superlópez, by Javier Ruiz Caldera

Sitges 2018 includes twenty productions with Catalan participation in this yearʼs program. One of them is the film Superlópez, to be premiered in the festival, coinciding with the 45th anniversary of the creation of the comic character. The film -which promises to be one of the top productions this season- is surrounded by a great artistic and technical team. Led by the ESCAC graduate Javier Ruiz Caldera, an expert on this genre (he directed the adaptation of the comic character Anacleto in 2015), other graduates of the School taking part in this project are Alberto de Toro (film editing); Arnau Valls (photography); Oriol Tarragó (sound) and Laura Pedro and Lluís Castells (visual effects). The coming out of the film in the Festival will be on October 11, in a gala in the Auditori Melià Sitges, with the director, Javier Ruiz Caldera, the main character, Dani Rovira, and actors Julián López and Alexandra Jiménez.

La otra vida, virtual reality proposal by Ibai Abad

Sitges also goes for the new technologies, and for its second year in a row, there will be an official section dedicated to experiences on virtual reality, coming from all around the world. The Slatix Sitges Cocoon will include several world premieres, such as the Catalan film La otra vida, by the young director from ESCAC Ibai Abad. A mystery story around a house and a loss: after the accidental death of her boyfriend, a woman comes back home and tries to leave the past behind, but there is something in the house that stops her from doing so. The audience will enjoy this piece and twenty more in the competition, which will be assessed by a prestigious jury headed by the film director Paco Plaza. Screenings will take place in the cinema room VR located in the Miramar Cultural Center, where the audience will enjoy these experiences with phones and Samsung GEAR VR.
