Nowadays, people around the world are facing a growing complex international scenario in which business interests and politics are moving modern warfare, allowing private corporations entering the conflict. Based on the proliferation and fragmentation of non-state armed actors, these new corporations involved in conflicts and wars benefit from the (in)security, placing it as a new model of business. Considering this situation, it is urgent to promote joint research to raise awareness and work on the consequences war and security privatization have in the democratic control of security policies, human security and respect of human rights.

The program of the conference consists of four sessions to be developed over the day (from 9 a.m. to 6.30 p.m.), which will treat topics going from the migratory and citizen control policies in Europe to the situation of destabilization in Libya, the occupation of Palestine, the plundering of natural resources in Western Sahara, the process of destabilization in Iraq, and the illegal expropriation of houses in Catalonia. Many local and international experts from the field of research, academia, human rights and journalism will take part in the conference. Among the speakers are Krmanj Othman, senior legal advisor of the Independent Commission for Human Rights in Iraqi Kurdistan, who will talk about the impact of the PMSCs on the process of destabilization in Iraq; researcher Lahcen Dalil, director of the Association for the Monitoring of Resources and the Protection of Environment in Western Sahara (AMRPEWS), who will comment on the complicity of PMSCs on the plundering of natural resources in Western Sahara, and Mark Samander, analyst of corporate policies and research in Al-Haq (Palestine), who will treat the use of PMSCs by Israel in the occupation of East Jerusalem.
