The existence of a glass ceiling for members of the Congress of Deputies between 1977 and 2018 or gender sensitivity in national health plans are some of the topics in the bachelor degree final projects that have been awarded in the first edition of the Awards to the best TFG on gender perspective at the University of Barcelona.

These awards, aimed at the projects carried out during the academic year 2017-2018, have been promoted by the equality commissions of the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. The objective is to give visibility to projects that add gender perspective, so that these contribute to raise awareness among students on gender equality. The two awards were given in the frame of the activities that were organized by the UB coinciding on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, November 25.

Gender in the field of health

Aina Delgado has been the awardee student at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, for her project La sensibilitat de gènere dels plans nacionals de salut. With an comprehensive bibliographical research and a specific model analysis, Degaldo analyses the structures of gender inequity in the field of health, as well as the existing recommendations to bring gender perspective to public health policies, to present results and provide improvements.

The honourable mention was given to the student Janet Valero for her project Atenció infermera a les agressions sexuals a dones joves en un context dʼoci. The aim of the study was to determine the necessary nursing interventions for the holistic care to women who have been sexually assaulted with the use of drugs, and to identify the existing therapeutic and community resources to face potential sexual traumas.

According to recent data by Hospital Clínic de Barcelona, during 2018, the center has received 351 people for having been sexually harassed. A 29 % of these cases are thought to happen after chemical submission, and 60 % of the victims said they had used drugs or alcohol.

The role of women in the Congress of Deputies and during the Francoist repression

The Faculty of Law has given the award to the best TFG with gender perspective to Guillermo Martín Pérez for his project Diputadas del Congreso de los Diputados (1977-2018): evolución, perfil sociológico y techo de cristal. Martín Pérezʼs study analyses the evolution of the profile of women deputies in the Congress over the last forty years, as well as the chances to reach these power positions in the institution. The project looks into the evolution of the presence of women in the public forum to analyse gender discrimination in the Spanish governmental institutions from the transition to nowadays.

The honourable mention was given to the project Dones, franquisme i repression. Estudi de la repression franquista envers les dones de Vandellòs durant la Guerra Civil espanyola i la primera postguerra, by Lluc Margalef. The study analyses the economic, psychological and sexual oppression republican women went through, and in particular, those in Vandellòs (Tarragona), during the final days of the Civil War and the first post-war. A repression that, according to the author, has been kept in silence until not long ago.
