Lluís Caballol took office as ombudsman of the UB, after having been chosen for this position he was in as acting ombudsman since September 2015, during the University Senate on July 4. The event took place on Monday, October 8, and was presided by the rector Joan Elias. In this event, Juan Carlos Hortal Ibarra took office as assistant ombudsman, and Inés Fernández Renna took office as the rectorʼs delegate for Knowledge Transfer.

Lluís Caballol took office as ombudsman of the UB, after having been chosen for this position he was in as acting ombudsman since September 2015, during the University Senate on July 4. Lluís Caballol i Angelats (Tortosa, 1965) holds a doctorate in Law from the UB, where he works as tenured lecturer in the Area of Procedural Law. He has held, among others, the following positions: secretary at the Department of Administrative and Procedural Law (1993-1997), member of the Senate of the UB representing the Faculty of Law (2003-2006) and assistant ombudsman (2006-2015). He is now member of the Teaching Innovation Group Dikasteia and the consolidated Research Group Catalan Civil Law.

The Ombudsman is in charge of looking after the rights and freedoms of the students, the teaching and research staff, and the administration and services staff regarding the actions of several university services and organs; as well as playing an informative role on the functioning of the University. His actions are aimed to improve the university quality in all fields, and are led by the principles of independence and autonomy. The Ombudsman is chosen by the Senate, proposed by the rector, once the representatives of the university community are listened to as well as the previous report by the Board of Trustees. The Ombudsman holds a four-year mandate and can be elected one more time only.
