Registrations are still open for the fifth edition of Unirun, the race in which twelve Catalan universities take part and which promotes new challenges in university athletics. The race will take place on Sunday, March 3, in Barcelona and Sant Adrià de Besòs. The University of Barcelona, as the coordinator of the Catalan University Sport (ECU) this year, is also the organizer of the race, which is once more sponsored by Adidas. Registrations can be submitted in the website of Unirun until February 26. The race expects a similar success to last editionʼs, which gathered more than 4,200 participants.

Registrations are still open for the fifth edition of Unirun, the race in which twelve Catalan universities take part and which promotes new challenges in university athletics. The race will take place on Sunday, March 3, in Barcelona and Sant Adrià de Besòs. Registrations can be submitted in the website of Unirun until February 26. The race expects a similar success to last editionʼs, which gathered more than 4,200 participants.

Unirun 2019 will start at 9.30 a.m. in Parc del Fòrum and will end at the same place, after tracing a tour that will go around the district of Sant Martí in Barcelona, Port Fòrum and platja de la Pau (beach) in Sant Adrià de Besòs. The course is 6,779 meters, the same distance than the traditional rowing race of the English universities (Oxford and Cambrdige).

Participation is open to everyone: university students, former students, future students, university staff, suppliers, family members and supporters of the Catalan universities. The minimum age requirement is for those born in 2003. Participants have to join the team of their university and wear its corresponding shirt.

Apart from the individual competition against the chrono (the first three classified runners under menʼs category and womenʼs category will be awarded), there will be prizes for the first man and the first woman of each university, for the winning university, and for the winning university under womenʼs category and under menʼs category.

One euro supporting the UB Support program for refugees

Registration costs 8 euros (10 if the person does not have a yellow chip). Unirun is also standing up for a cause: when registering, participants who wish can donate one euro to help the Support Program of the University of Barcelona for refugees and people from conflict areas. The program, launched in September 2015 under the coordination of Solidaritat UB Foundation, aims to promote access of this collective to higher education. With this aim, it includes supporting actions for refugee students through grants for the university enrolment, Catalan and Spanish language courses, tutoring programs, accommodation, legal advice and psychological assistance.

ECTS credits in the Unirun and Adidas Runners training

Participation in the Unirun is recognized with ECTS and lliure elecció credits for the students. Also, this year, participants can get ECTS taking part in the training organized by Adidas Runners Barcelona. These trainings take place every Tuesday and Thursday. The starting point changes in every session and it takes place from 7.30 p.m. to 9.15 p.m. To take part in these, registration is necessary in the website Adidas Runners Barcelona and participants have to enrol in weekly activities. Please visit the sports service of the corresponding university to find the academic recognition regarding the participation in Unirun and Adidas Runners trainings.

Unirun is organized by ECU, which gathers the twelve Catalan universities, and the company Gaudium Sports, a distinguished company in the field of popular races in Barcelona, and counts on the support of the Barcelona City Council, the Secretariat-General of Sports and the City Council of Sant Adrià de Besòs.

The twelve universities taking part in the race are: the University of Barcelona, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Universitat Politècnica de Barcelona, Pompeu Fabra University, University of Lleida, Universiy of Girona, Universitat Rovira i Virgili, Ramon Llull University, Universitat Oberta de Catalunya, Univesity of Vic - Central University of Catalonia, Abat Oliva CEU University, and Universitat Internacional de Catalunya.
