The lecturer Rosa Maria Lamuela Raventós, from the Faculty of Pharmacy and Food Sciences of the UB, has been awarded the Danone Institute Prize to the Scientific Career Dr. Carles Martí Henneberg 2018, an award to honor the contribution to the field of food, nutrition and health in Spain. This award was given on Wednesday, January 30, in the commemorative ceremony for the 25th anniversary of Danone Institute, presided by Luis A. Moreno Azar, professor at the University of Zaragoza and president of the Danone Institute, and Ana Canals, advisory member of the Executive Directorate of the Spanish Agency for Consumer Affairs, Food Safety and Nutrition (AESAN).

The lecturer Rosa Maria Lamuela Raventós, from the Faculty of Pharmacy and Food Sciences of the UB, has been awarded the Danone Institute Prize to the Scientific Career Dr. Carles Martí Henneberg 2018, an award to honor the contribution to the field of food, nutrition and health in Spain. This award was given on Wednesday, January 30, in the commemorative ceremony for the 25th anniversary of Danone Institute, presided by Luis A. Moreno Azar, professor at the University of Zaragoza and president of the Danone Institute, and Ana Canals, advisory member of the Executive Directorate of the Spanish Agency for Consumer Affairs, Food Safety and Nutrition (AESAN).

 

Rosa Maria Lamuela is a lecturer from the Department of Nutrition, Food Sciences and Gastronomy and member of the Physiopathology of Obesity and Nutrition Networking Biomedical Research Centre (CIBERobn). Expert on nutrition and food sciences, she leads the Institute for Nutrition and Food Safety (INSA) -located in the Food and Nutrition Torribera Campus- and head of the Research Group of Natural Antioxidants of the UB, part of the Reference Network in Food Technology of the Catalan Government (XaRTA).


Lamuela has led several research lines on the study of polyphenol with plant origin (resveratrol, flavonoids, α-tocopherol, β-carotene, etc.) and has taken part in international projects -such as PREDIMED, a multicentre clinical trial on the Mediterranean diet and health- in the field of nutritional epidemiology. In the 2017 and 2018 editions, Lamuela has been distinguished in the scientific elite of Clarivate Analyticsʼ Highly Cited Researchers ranking, one of the most prestigious rankings among the international scientific and academic community. This selection, published by Clarivate Analytics -leading company in the innovation sector- identifies the most influential scientists who lead projects with the highest international scientific impact in several areas of knowledge.


Founded in 1993, the Danone Institute is a non-profit organization whose main aim is to promote scientific research and education in the field of food, nutrition and health. This entity, which gathers around two-hundred international experts and is represented in fourteen countries, promotes several activities to encourage and honor the scientific activity and to promote the improvement of eating habits among citizens. The commemoration ceremony for its 25th anniversary paid homage to Manuel Serrano Ríos, founder president of the institute and emeritus professor of the Complutense University of Madrid. Other participants in the event were the experts José Manuel Moreno Villares (Clínica Universidad de Navarra in Madrid), and José Manuel García Almeida (University Hospital Virgen de la Victoria, Malaga).
