The Governing Council ratifies the European university project Charm EU
The Governing Council of the University of Barcelona, gathered today in ordinary session, approved the strategic lines for the European alliance Charm EU, presented in Barcelona last January. The initiative, coordinated by the University of Barcelona, will cooperate in the call by the European Commission aimed at the creation of European universities, which will close in late February. A total of twelve alliances will divide a 60 million euro budget.
The rector of the University of Barcelona, Joan Elias, referred to Charm EU as an innovation that can transform the European university system. One of the new things the rector provided is that the five initial signing universities in the alliance (UB, Trinity College Dublin, University of Montpellier, Utrecht University, and the Eötvös Loránd University of Budapest) receive now as an affiliated partner the University of Applied Sciences Hochschule Ruhr West, which will bring potential and benefits of the university dual education system, in which Germany is a pioneer country. They also asked quality agencies of the countries represented by partners -in our case the Catalan University Quality Assurance Agency (AQU) and the National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation of Spain (ANECA) to be part of the project.
The aim of Charm EU, countersigned by the Governing Council, highlights it wants to encourage students so they become “European citizens” able to bring solutions to global challenges, many of those related to the sustainable development goals (SDG). Therefore, an academic offering (master degrees, doctoral degrees and lifelong learning programs) will be created, based on the European values of freedom, autonomy and respect for human rights.
Among the differential traits is the power given to students to work on their résumé and choose the learning modules according to their interests and social needs they want to respond to. These modules will be taught in one of the five universities that make the network and will be known for using innovative and digitally intensive learning strategies.
Tenure track lecture positions
The Governing Council has also approved, in teaching, the call for ten positions of tenure track 2 lecturer for research staff in the program Ramon y Cajal with I3 certificate. The implementation of the new regulations for research PDA has been ratified.
